Description
NHS Providers is the membership organisation and trade association for the NHS’s provider sector. We offer unrivalled influence, voice and support to our members who account for £124bn of annual expenditure and employ 1.5 million people. We are an outstanding membership organisation responding to an extraordinary set of challenges and the wider demands faced by members at a time of operational pressure and resource constraint.
An apolitical organisation, we seek to speak with authority on healthcare matters and to influence policy. We help NHS foundation trusts and trusts to deliver high-quality, patient-focused care by enabling them to learn from each other, acting as their public voice and helping shape the system in which they operate. At this time of system working and the shift towards care in the community, digitisation, and prevention, the need for us to provide our members with a clear and distinct voice could not be more important.
With our CEO Sir Julian Hartley moving to a new role, this appointment comes at an exciting and challenging time for the sector and for NHS Providers. It offers a compelling opportunity to play an important leadership role at the heart of the NHS and to exercise sector-wide influence and leadership. As chief executive you will deliver our strategic vision, spreading and embedding our inclusive culture, and inspiring us as we work to help members, and their system partners, drive improvement and innovation. You will have a strong public profile, speaking for members’ interests in the media and influencing government and key national decision makers. You will work closely with our recently appointed chair, Professor Sir Terence Stephenson, to access and to engage key influencers and policy makers, representing NHS Providers in other important but informal networks such as chief executives of key statutory bodies including NHS England and Care Quality Commission, where you will fit credibly as a peer.
Whatever sector your leadership experience has been gained in you will need to demonstrate a sufficiently impressive grasp of healthcare and its challenges to be credible both with our members and to those we seek to influence. Success in leading through periods of great challenge while delivering sustainable organisational and cultural change is essential, and you will need strong commercial acumen, effective partnership collaboration and extensive national and social media experience. If you believe you bring this experience and if you can navigate a fast moving political and policy landscape, then we would like to hear from you.
